Examination of building structural elements

Examination of materials' physical characteristics

Being a member of BARG group guarantees access to professional laboratory facilities. Thanks to that we can examine majority of structural materials used in the building industry.We offer our services throughout Poland.When carrying out evaluation of a construction from concrete or reinforced concrete, we sample the material by our own means by core drilling.

We carry out destructive testing:

  • compressive strength,
  • bending strength,
  • stripping strength,
  • humidity and absorbability,
  • waterproofness and frost resistance.


We also offer non-destructive testing. It is to complement the offer to carry out tasks in facilities where the scope of possibilities is restricted.

We carry out, among others:

  • assessment of compressive strength using sclerometer test,
  • assessment of compressive strength using ultrasonic testing,
  • assessment of extraction force using a pull-out method -  capo-test, bond-test,
  • assessment of adhesion by pull-off,
  • assessment of extraction force - resins tapping anchors,
  • assessment of extraction force of resins ribbing anchors,
  • assessment of moisture of elements using microwave or carbide method.

Non-destructive tests of concrete reinforcement

We use tools that allow to:

  • determine the spacing of reinforced concrete bars in reinforced concrete elements in a non-destructive manner,
  • determination of concrete reinforcement's cover thickness and its consistence with drawings,
  • assess the diameter of build-in reinforced concrete bars.

Using modern equipment, it is possible to avoid weakening of the construction normally caused by digging borrow pits. It is also possible to limit the amount of clean up and maintenance work after digging a pit. Additionally, it is possible to avoid accidental damage made to the reinforced concrete bars, e.g. while making boreholes.

The test allows for an easy and quick inventory of the number and the distribution of concrete reinforcement in the already made elements. Tthe information gained is often necessary for changing the way a structure is used or for making superstructures.

We have the following devices on disposal: Ferroscan PS200 firmy Hilti, Profometer PM650 firmy Proceq oraz Lithoscope BDM firmy Wurth.

Leeb hardness method

Leeb metal hardness dynamic test  A test made by a mobile device carried out in field conditions Equotip 500 made by Proceq. Non-destructive tests requiring small measuring field

Tests are carried out in compliance with ISO 16859 and ASTM A956 norms.

Evaluation of hardness of different types of elements and materials. It is possible to determine the basic parameters of the tensile strength (Rm). We are able to calculate the results into different hardness scales, e.g. HV, HB, HRB, HRA, HS (Brinell, Vickers hardness and Rockwell and Shore scale).

Coats and elements' thickness tests

We evaluate the thickness of coating of protective elements and follow-up examination of the thickness of steel frames' elements (pipelines walls, closed profiles, elements with CLOSED access). An acceptance inspection of works aimed at protecting the structure against corrosion was necessary in order to carry out tests. The tests provide also  vital information while inspection of the state of construction. The evaluation methods we offer do not damage the coating (contrary to the old methods) therefore, eliminates the need to reconstruct them.

The measurement methods offered employ the measurement of magnetic field strength, eddy currents intensity and measurement of ultrasound impulse propagation, therefore they eliminate the need for specialised preparation of elements of the layers to test. It is not necessary to repair any elements of a construction after carrying out the test, and the results are available on a current basis.

Testing brick elements

Brick constructions are one of the oldest. Nowadays, the most common constructions of that type are those built before II World War and shortly after that.

The equipment on our disposal, as well as the methods developed by us, allow to:

  • determine compressive strength of mixtures bound by binder according to norm  PN-EN 772-1
  • determine compressive strength of brick elements and mortars on the basis of core samples
  • determine the level of moisture employing non-destructive methods - microwave testing
  • determine the level of moisture employing semi-destructive methods - CM Carbide Method
  • determine the level of moisture employing the desiccators method
  • prepare a complex map of wall moistness
  • determine  the level of walls' salinity in line with WTA guidelines
  • carry out quality assessment of hydrophobisation of elements - Karten Pipe

We offer comprehensive thermographic test connected with the analysis of the results gained, determination of causes of such abnormalities and suggestions concerning repairs. The thermographic test  is an inexpensive, yet an effective way of evaluation which elements of a building need to be corrected in order to save money during the heating season.

The tests, carried are out with the usage of highly specialised infrared camera, can be also used to search for failure spots in a floor heating system, electrical breakdown and places with the temperature below the dew point.

Not many people are aware of the fact that fungus and mould which develop on building materials pose health hazard. Apart from doubtful aesthetic and aromatic effect, the organisms also cause organic degradation of building materials, such as chipboards or even roof rafters. Fungal and mould spores are dangerous to our health, cause allergies and asthma.

The methods used to prevent mould and fungus need to be adjusted to the exact of the organism as well as to conditions faced. The right choice is however, only possible after carrying out expertise examination of the problem.

We offer preparation of an opinion and mycological expertise thanks to which you can learn what the causes of mould and fungus existence in you flat or house are. You will also learn what actions to take in order to eradicate the problem quickly and effectively.

Rooms air permeability measurement PN-EN 13829

The method measures the flow of air in a room or a building at overpressure or negative pressure. In order to carry out the test, it is necessary to place a device in the entrance door and secure ventilation openings.

The measurement of air-tight of a building is used to determine possible points of blowthrough and leakage, which can lower the room temperature. It is an easy way to inspect the quality of constructional works. Together with infrared mapping, it enables complex evaluation of the state of building.

Server rooms air permeability PN-EN 15004

FPA 2001 Standard for Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems
Examination of air permeability of server rooms is necessary in order to state whether the gaseous fire suppression system will be effective. The gaseous fire suppression system is currently the most effective system among those, used in building structures.

It is a quick and non-invasive test method, which constitutes an alternative to the evaluation of extinguishing agent concentration in time, after filling the whole room with the agent.
